What to do in an earthquake

Generally, the key phrase to remember is "Earthquake: Duck, Cover and Hold!" Here are some official earthquake materials that I believe can help us. Your computer will need an Adobe Acrobat Reader to view some of the downloads:

Not enough help after major quake

If an M7.0 to M7.2 earthquake does hit Metro Manila soon, there will most probably be insufficient rescue and emergency personnel to serve the injured spread in different locations...help can be very much delayed. Every community may need to have their own medical supplies and group of volunteers who are trained for such a disaster...because we may surely be the one doing the rescue operation and first aid treatment ourselves.
Here are some more suggestions for those who want to be prepared.
  1. Make your houses and offices safe. Involve yourself in the earthquake preparedness activities of your child's school. Look around you for possible hazards like glass and fluorescent lights that could break and fall, objects that could drop and furniture, like cabinets, that could come crashing down.
  2. Identify safe spots where you could immediately duck during the tremors. Look for sturdy furniture like tables that can shield you from falling glass and other objects. Consider that you may have to move holding on and crawling with that furniture over your head to avoid collapsing walls.
  3. Schedule some time to learn First Aid as you and your companions may definitely have to administer it to yourselves and each other during an emergency. Anyway, you will still find it useful in your daily life even if the emergency or earthquake doesn't come.
  4. Consider donating blood now and try doing it as often as your health would permit. Blood shortage is a perennial problem of blood banks because many people don't volunteer unless they need blood for their patients. During disasters, blood shortage may go from bad to worse. More survivors perish because of insufficient supplies of blood aside from medicine. Enlisting as an organ donor will also save many lives.
  5. Pray to God, who is far more powerful than any disaster. All throughout our human history, from the ancient times to the present, when people are confronted with danger or catastrophe, they pray and God saves them. We live in a world where there is a constant threat to our safety and our lives. Earthquakes from faults, volcanic eruptions, landslides, stampede, riots, terrorist attacks..flash floods are everywhere even in powerful and developed countries. The only difference we may have from some people is that we have faith on a God that will save us...a God who will be with us through everything that happens to our lives.
God bless you all.

The Pills, Injectables...Contraceptives lead to Abortion

Hello everyone,

Life begins at conception (when a human egg cell is fertilized). However small, that's already a baby that should be nurtured by a mother's womb.

If that tiny baby could not cling to the womb because it had been dried up through the use of pills, injectables or irritated by IUD and other contraceptives...that baby will not live...that's abortion.

If that tiny baby gets stuck in a fallopian tube that had been previously altered surgically (tubal ligation) but reconnected (making fertilization possible) and that child does not reach the protective and nurturing embrace of the womb, that little person will not live...that's also abortion.

Contraception is abortion. It is poisoning that life-giving body of a mother. Please choose life.

If that unborn child could be allowed to talk and be heard, maybe she will grow up to be like the 12 year old girl in the You Tube Video.

God bless you all,
Ace

12-Year-Old Stuns Pro-Choice Teacher and School with Pro-Life Presentation

By Kathleen Gilbert

TORONTO, February 11, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) - 12-year-old "Lia" of Toronto has become a star at her school and on Youtube with her five-minute pro-life speech, crafted for a school competition. Despite discouragement and outright opposition, Lia's presentation was so well done that she reportedly won the contest she was told she would be disqualified from, due to the "controversial" message of her speech.

The speech is available in its entirety on Youtube, where it has been viewed over 100,000 times and sparked a heated discussion. (See: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wOR1wUqvJS4&feature=chann...)

"What if I told you that right now, someone was choosing if you were gonna live or die?" begins the charismatic seventh-grader in a practice recording of the speech posted on Youtube. "What if I told you that this choice wasn't based on what you could or couldn't do, what you'd done in the past, or what you would do in the future? And what if I told you, you could do nothing about it?

"Fellow students and teachers, thousands of children are right now in that very situation. Someone is choosing without even knowing them whether they are going to live or die. That someone is their mother. And that choice is abortion."

Lia, speaking easily and with sunny enthusiasm, fires off answers to several common objections in the brief speech.

"Why do we think that just because a fetus can't talk or do what we do, it isn't a human being yet?" She asks. "Some babies are born after only five months. Is this baby not human?

"We would never say that. Yet abortions are performed on 5-month-old fetuses all the time. Or do we only call them humans if they're wanted?

"Think about the child's rights, that were never given to it. No matter what rights the mother has, it doesn't mean we can deny the rights of the fetus," she said. "We must remember that with our rights and our choices come responsibilities, and we can't take someone else's rights away to avoid our responsibilities."

Lia's mother says that the topic was of her own choosing, and that she was determined not to back down, even after teachers told her it was "too mature" and "too controversial."

"She was also told that if she went ahead with that topic, she would not be allowed to continue on in the speech competition," Lia's mother wrote in the email to the Moral Outcry blog. "Initially, I tried helping her find other topics to speak on, but, in the end, she was adamant. She just felt she wanted to continue with the topic of abortion. So she forfeited her chance to compete in order to speak on something she was passionate about."

The mother told LifeSiteNews.com (LSN) that the girl's homeroom teacher was supportive of Lia's speech even though she was pro-choice. "After helping Lia do the speech she said, 'It really got me thinking,'" the mom noted.

At the schoolwide competition, the mom said one pro-choice teacher on the judge's panel "didn't even want to hear" the speech, and stepped down from the panel before Lia began. After the speech, which Lia's family said was well-received by both students and teachers, the judges initially told Lia she had indeed been disqualified. But controversy among the judges eventually led to a reversal, and Lia's family learned the next day that the panel agreed the girl deserved to win the competition.

"There was a big stink about it, and we volunteered to step down ... but her teacher said 'No, she won fair and square, so she'll keep going on," said her mom. Lia is expected to present her speech at a regional competition tomorrow night, representing her school.

When asked what inspired Lia to pursue the topic so adamantly, her mother said it was "a little mystery."

While the family espouses pro-life Christian values, "it's not like we're out every weekend picketing," she said. "It was just something really deep in her heart, and she just felt really passionate about it." She added: "I kind of snicker when I see people on the Youtube video [comment box] saying 'Oh, her mother forced her to do this' - I'm like, 'No, I'm on the other end, trying to make her pick another topic!'

"But she was just really passionate about it, and she has her research on it," said the mother. "I really believe it's just something that God put in her heart."

Computer, Math Formula and The Secret to Win the Superlotto

If the PCSO announces more than one winner in the Superlotto 6-49 game, shouldn't we be alarmed?

This article discusses
  1. The integrity of the Superlotto 6-49
  2. Winning the jackpot using Math, MS Excel and the Science of the Law of Attraction
  3. An updated table of frequently drawn numbers
When nobody gets all six combinations in the PCSO Lotto 6-49 game, that's okay.  One winner in a long while is a miracle...but multiple winners...wait a minute...isn't that Mathematically impossible!

There are 13,983,816 possible combinations for the Lotto 6-49 game.  If a person attempts to guess the combinations that will be drawn for the day,  his chance of getting it right is only 1 out of almost 14 Million combinations.  To increase the chances of getting the jackpot combination, that person needs to bet on more number combinations.  A 1% chance at the jackpot means betting on 139,838 combinations (which will cost P2.8 Million).

If PCSO made P106.2 Million in sales on Feb. 8, 2009, that's only 5.3 Million combinations (total sales divided by P20 bet).  There would be 8.6 Million combinations (62%) without a bettor ...and that's also the odds of having no winner (again).

There's a popular notion that there must be a millionaire who's waiting for the jackpot to reach a certain amount and then bet on all the combinations.  That means the jackpot for the Superlotto should be more than P279.6 Million.  Would any millionaire bet P279.6 Million?  Wouldn't he be running the risk of losing half of the jackpot if another millionaire does the same.  Are the lotto computers even capable of taking almost 14 Million bets at one time?

(This article is still undergoing editing and will be continued next time, please view this page again).
